Somewhere on either side of Mount Afton, Virginia, in the winter of ’09, the best bands you haven’t heard yet were warming up their tube amps and plugging in their weathered Stratocasters in cramped, dingy basements. Funny / Not Funny Records crystallizes this moment in history by pairing together the sounds of Charlottesville’s The Invisible Hand and Harrisonburg’s The Alphabet (defunct) for their debut release as a label. The Alphabet gives us a track defined by a careful balance of punk intensity and pop sensibilities while the other side shows a more intimate Invisible Hand who delivers a home-recorded offering full of layered electronics and vocals.
