Andrew Cedermark

Andrew Cedermark is a wonderfully talented musician residing in Charlottesville, VA. Andrew's songs evoke a sense of hope and adventure with dynamics so strong, at times you feel like you're standing behind him while he's recording quietly in his bedroom, and seconds later you're being blown over by a giant's drum kit in an empty olympic-sized swimming pool. Andrew's got a firm grip when it comes to making everything seem so gigantic and so minuscule in just a few short minutes, with the most keen sense of composition around, making anything he touches cohesive and complete.

Jacob Wolf, Kevin Haney, Andrew Cedermark

Borrowed Beams of Light

The Beams quickly grabbed the attention of Charlottesville and the surrounding region with their brand of 70's influenced indie rock. Adam Brock and Nathan Walsh, the masterminds behind the Beams, have constructed carefully orchestrated pop songs that hold the attention of the most ADD kid in the room. With a CDEP and a split 7” under their belt, the Beams have set out to write and record their first full length record.

The Borrowed Beams of Light are...
Adam Benson Brock, Nathan Ryan Walsh, Marie Landragin, Jordan Brunk, Adam Smith

Drunk Tigers

A four-piece outfit whose replacements-esque lead vocals are occasionally accompanied by upbeat shouts from the rest of the band that would fit well with any after party dance fest. Don't believe me? Take a listen. Instantly you will find yourself transported to a room with all your favorite dudes and fridge full of beers. All that is left to do is party.

Elephant Child

In the High and Far-Off Times the Elephant, O Best Beloved, had no guitar. But there was one Elephant--a new Elephant--an Elephant's Child--who was full of 'satiable curtiosity. This Elephant heard tales of the Crocodile who knew how to rock. The Elephant traveled the desert far and wide, full of perils such as cannibals, wild women, and wine. But when he got to the banks of the great grey-green, greasy Limpopo River there was no Crocodile only a guitar. The Elephant continued to travel around, sharing his distorted sound, as if Nirvana had made a lovechild with the Velvet Underground.

Elephant Child are...
John Hostetter, Aaron Propst, Scott Whitten

Eternal Summers

Eternal Summers, a duo now gone trio, mix together a blend of jangly hooks and hazy pop to deliver a final product best described as dreamy. Each song has a beautifully polished quality to it that can only come from a band with chemistry; a chemistry that has been with them from the start and followed them through countless shows, numerous releases, and shows no signs of wavering. The band features prominent members of the Roanoke, VA based Magic Twig Community who are consistently are producing classy nostalgic tunes that will leave you believing they have a Midas touch.

John Jacob

John Hostetter has quite the impressive resume: Berkley grad, former bass player in Austin's Harlem, currently the brainchild/front-man for 90's throwback grunged-up pop outfit Elephant Child, and now with his most recent release "Red Square," unrivaled power-pop enthusiast preforming under the name John Jacob. John's songs are undeniably catchy, keenly crafted, and jam-packed with dynamic, powerful riffs and "rentals-esque keyboards" (I'm reminded of Superdrag's tracks from the Anniversary split on Red Square). John's songs almost seem to breathe. Keep up with John's on going EP project over at his bandcamp site - http://johnjacob.bandcamp.com/

Naked Gods

Naked Gods are a "hapless burly-pop prog-punk" quintet based out of the mountains of western North Carolina. A band for roughly four years now, and with various members having grown up writing and performing together, Naked Gods' music derives itself from an eclectic slop of influences and styles. Most importantly, the songs take on their inspiration from both an intense awareness and exploration of community and place, friendship, and a shared desire to artistically experiment and redefine their own musical boundaries. The band lives, writes, practices, records, breeds felines, and indulges in wild fermentation experiments on unsuspecting vegetables at their home in Boone, NC.

Naked Gods are...
Seth Sullivan, Derek Wycoff, Brian Knox, Chris Hutelmyer, Christian Smith

Order

Order is Thomas Dean, Rich Ivey, Matt Leech, Adam Smith and Josh Lawson. But it wasn’t always this way. The fact that the Charlottesville, VA-based band’s pedigree contains current and ex-members of The Invisible Hand, Whatever Brains and The Alphabet; some of the best the Shenandoah region currently has to offer indie rock, should not matter. In truth, Order has existed via many lineups and nomenclatures since 2001. While the band has consistently been performing its excellent brand of pop-noir for close to a decade, its storied lineage is difficult to comprehend. Plagued with a high turnover rate, at least 18 accountable Virginia musicians have called themselves a member of Order, Order of the Dying Orchid, Order Order or Order Forever. Looking through old Order photos, more often than not, a future or former member can be indentified in the audience.

Order is...
Josh Lawson, Thomas Dean, Matt Leech, Adam Smith, Rich Ivey

Order is/was...
Parker, Neil, Matt W., Yohanna, Adam Smith, Jody Mac, Nik, Tom,
Josh, Ryan, Ali, Tim, Ron, John, Adam, Rich, Zach and Matt

Prison Book Club

Prison Book Club is a back-to-basics rock ‘n roll band from Shepherdstown, West Virginia. With roots planted in and informed by the distinctly down-and-out characters of songwriting through the ages, from George Jones to Paul Westerberg, Prison Book Club combines a steady range of thoughtful songs, loud-and-proud guitars, and a do-it-your-damn-self ethos.

Prison Book Club are...Adam Meisterhans, Andrew Ford, John R. Miller, Tucker Riggleman

The Cinnamon Band

The Cinnamon Band is a Virginia-based guitar and drums duo that combines the raw anthemic power of early U2 with the heartworn lyrical punchlines of Nick Lowe and the bittersweet vocal harmonies of the Everly Brothers. Self-consciously rooted in Rock and Roll history, its ambitious heartbreaking pop music with every inch of fat cut off.

The Cinnamon Band are...
John Harouff, Neil Campbell

The Demon Beat

The Demon Beat aren’t here to shock or alienate anyone. They’re here to make you believe in what they believe, a kind of spirit so many of the cookie cutter indie rock bands of today can’t seem to grasp. It should hit you right in the pit of your stomach, should take risks, should be more about the music than following some kind of aesthetic. More about creating than pretending.

The Demon Beat are...
Adam Meisterhans, Jordan Hudkins, Tucker Riggleman

The Diamond Center

Upon forming in 2007, The Diamond Center at its core has always been Kyle Harris and Brandi Price. After travels and homesteads in Athens, Georgia and Lubbock, Texas, their creative migratory patterns led them to Richmond, Virginia. Numerous releases as well as multiple cross-country tours has only solidified the group’s psychedelic aesthetic and the adoring legions of fans spread across state lines.

The Invisible Hand

Charlottesville's Invisible Hand, fronted by Adam Smith, would like for us to reference The Kinks in even the shortest description about their band. However, continuously referencing one of their life-long influences is becoming a disservice to the strikingly unique and severely addictive intellectual 60's-inspired riff-pop genre in which The Invisible Hand has found themselves thriving.

The Invisible Hand is...
Adam Smith, Thomas Dean, Jon Bray, Adam Brock

The Super Vacations

The Super Vacations is a five piece outfit that is equal parts so-cal garage and 60s influenced psych. WIth its members spread all over Virginia, the band sports a unique and creative songwriting process that generates well crafted songs where parts are rarely revisited and are always to the point. A process that begs the listener to throw the record back on before hitting the shelf in order to get another glimpse of the gold previously on display. Don’t take my word for it, give it a spin, just don’t blame me when your needle wears out.

The Super Vacations are…
Rob Ulsh, Ryan Ulsh, Mike Hill, Bladen Day, Ross Guthrie

The Young Sinclairs

Painting a majestic picture of The Young Sinclairs is a rather easy task. Roanoke, VA, their hometown, basks in the glow of the world's largest freestanding illuminated man-made star. The band is comprised of charter members of the Magic Twig Community whom records in their collectively owned recording studio fittingly named The Mystic Fortress. With this same majestic quality, The Sinclairs skillfully craft songs reminiscent of the 60s psych-jams heralded by The Byrds. The group’s exploration of the genre is impressive and their delivery elegantly proficient. Highly recommended.

The Young Sinclairs are...
John Thompson, Daniel Cundiff, Seanmichael Poff, Jonathan Woods, Samuel Lunsford

Uncle Bengine

Born and raised in the shadow of the beautiful Blue Ridge Mountains, Ben Schlabach writes honest songs about the important things in his life. His driving folk tunes are laden with personal adventure and tales of family, friends, and gals. Pull up a chair, for whether this man performs solo or is accompanied by pedal steel and drums, he has one great story to tell.

Whatever Brains

What else do we know about Whatever Brains, other than every time we see a photo of them they're either grilling or looking like they just lit a bunch of fireworks and shoved them in a mailbox? From their three amazing 7" singles, we can devise that their tracks are synonymous with their photos; explosive, packing a punch.., daunting, ...about grilling. They'd probably like to take this opportunity to tell you how they like hanging and playing music and listening to The Fall and Country Teasers...I'm going to take this opportunity to advise against ever letting Rich Ivey talk you into playing Dr. Mario. My man doesn't even have a down button! The Whatever Brains have been compared to a slower, drunker hives. Nail on the head, my friend. Some of the most genuine, nice guys you'll ever meet, making the most fucked up, evil, catchy punk songs around.

Whatever Brains are...
Rich Ivey, Evan Williams, William Evans, Matt Watson, Hank Shore
